"Break Away" - A Stopmotion Bboy Short

the action starts at 1:00. the music/video unsynched a bit during the upload, and sorry for the black bars. imperfect but deadlines are deadlines! exeter student loses himself in a whimsical daydream of stopmotion dancing that lasts the whole day. friendship is made along the way, but eventually we all need to say our goodbyes. in the end, though we won't escape this world, we'll never lose our ability to dream and hope, and to have fun making films with friends about dreaming and dancing. location: shots from swayze parkway, the film lab, my room in soule, and across the PEA campus. songs: "singing in the rain (remix)" - mint royale "can i kick it" - a tribe called quest 2nd and final project for PEA filmmaking spring'09, to further experiment with shooting and editing movies. i chose to take digital stills to enable me to accomplish the long shot effect as well as improve the quality of the image. the fast-paced nature of stopmotion helps absorb the viewer into the magic of the fantasy-world. also, the technique is a special effect that lets me "dance" in ways that are impossible in reality, or at least for my skill level haha. most scenes were shot in sequence and put together, with bad shots deleted, and also by editting one shot at a time, to be cut on the beat (direction was guided by the music choice) ~1000 photos used, shot (with a canon digital elph on highest settings) in 6 days totaling about 10 hours, 15+ hours of figuring out editing using final cut pro ...

Canon PowerShot S230 3.2 MP Digital ELPH Camera with 2x Optical Zoom and Coach Camera Case Customer Review

I bought this camera almost 4 years ago, and I love it in every way. It takes great pictures, uses a rechargeable battery and is great on battery life. I go about 6 months without having to recharge the battery. I would say I take a medium amount of pictures.

Recently Dec. 2007, I went to go take a picture and the screen was blank with a few purplish lines running through it.. My icons showed up, but there wasn't anything in the LCD. When viewing playback pictures, those pictures show up in the view finder. I recharged the battery and tried again, same thing. For a while, I thought I would have to get a new camera.

I called Canon support (for the other reviewer, I found the number very easy to find, 1-800-828-4040.) After going through their voice prompts, I got a customer service person right away. No wait! Plus, the rep was in Virginia, so there weren't any of the typical issues that happen when customer support is located in India (like HP).

I described the problem, the rep helped me reset the camera, it worked for a few seconds. The rep told me to keep taking pictures for a few more seconds, because the fix may be temporary, and sure enough, the picture went blank again. (IMHO, most customer service departments would try to get me off the phone the second it started working again).

Long story short, there is a service advisory out on this camera, it turns out that the "image sensor" may malfunction. Canon is paying for the shipment back to them and they will fix it for free. No muss, no fuss. It didn't even matter that I had the camera for almost 4 years. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had.

If your camera starts acting up like this, call Canon right away.

**update 1/12/08 ***
Canon was not able to fix my camera so they sent me a BRAND new one, a SD900 , a much much better camera. My camera was not under warranty anymore, but since it was the "image sensor" issue, Canon still covered it. Amazing customer service, very rare these days. They just earned a customer for life.

The Best Digital Camera For Under $200

Who has the time to shift through reams of product reviews, or spend a half a day driving around malls talking with salespeople? Half the time, you don't know what or who to believe, and all the tech talk seems to turn a simple purchase into a major event. If your looking to get the best digital camera available for under $200, you've come to the right place. There are a couple of good cameras (3 at most) to consider in this category. The remaining 90% of models in this category can be safely ignored.

Over last Christmas, I had to make the same type of purchase. I didn't have a lot of time, and the wife thought a digital camera for her parents would be a great idea. As much as I'm a lover of technology, I wasn't convinced this was a good idea. They've never owned a digital camera before, and don't even have a computer. Not exactly the early adopter type. I looked around a bit, and was pleasantly surprised, and lucky to actually find a help salesperson at my local big box electronics store.

They right away recommended the Canon PowerShot A570IS. The IS stands for image stabilization. "Perfect" I thought for newbie digital camera types. At the time it was priced around $180, but I've since seen it online for around $150. I like Canon cameras, and have owned several over the years. They generally take great pictures, are very reliable, and intuitive to use. It's been a perfect choice for them.

If your looking for something a little smaller in size the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph would be an excellent choice as well. I've recently seen it priced for about $170, and again you get the reliable Canon name. Image quality will pale somewhat compared to the A570IS, but miniaturization does come at a price.

There you go, that didn't hurt much now did it. Of course, there are plenty of other cameras in the under $200 range. Some are just as good as those mentioned above, but you'll have a hard time doing better than the A570IS or the SD1000.

Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Elph Camera Review

The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS is a great camera for beginners and pros alike. Although the experts still find SLRs more useful, the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS still has some exciting new features.

Aside from the wide 2.5 LCD monitor, it also has a nice ISO range-from 80 to 1600. It has a 8 megapixel lens with 3x optical zoom, allowing you to have a range equivalent to a moderate telephoto and a moderate wide angle.

There are 13 scene modes which will be perfect for beginners to tweak, and it offers an exposure of as long as 15 seconds manually.

Pros and cons

The camera is easy to setup and easy to use, perfect for beginners and pros alike. It also has a quality construction and comfortable controls which also makes it easier for users to use it. The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS is perfect for taking pictures on travel and during family events because of its easy grip, but it will also be sufficient enough for photojournalism, just tweak the settings a little bit.

But, like every gadget there is, the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS also has its own set of flaws that are determined by other user. The downsides include its poor image quality when in low light, and the poor battery life. So when you use it, make sure you bring the charger along so you won't be disappointed too much. Some users also commented that the camera has a long lag time which results to a longer time for the camera to react to certain functions.

But other than those, the majority of users fin the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS a great deal for their money. The camera is a compact, function-packed device which is great for capturing moments in your life.

Canon PowerShot SD780IS Review

The Canon PowerShot SD780IS was introduced to the US market early March 2009 and has many great features. It is the slimmest digital ELPH Canon has produced so far but its small body packs a real punch. The term 'ELPH', before you ask, is a combination of the word 'elf' (for a camera that is small and magical) and the word 'photograph.' Besides being memorable marketing, the use of a non-standard spelling of 'elf' makes it a defensible trademark.

The camera comes in four colors, black, silver, gold and deep red. It is a 12.1 MP digital camera with a 2.5 inch LCD and a 3x optical image stabilized zoom. As already stated it is the slimmest ELPH Canon has produced with a width of 0.7 inches. Combined with a width and height of just 3.4 and 2.1 inches and weighing in at 4.2 ounces, it really is small.

Looking briefly at some of the highlights of this camera we can see that it has: HD movie shooting capability and HDMI output. This lets you record video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). You can then enjoy your movie, and still pics as well, on your HDTV by using the mini-HDMI connector with no degradation of the image.

By setting the Canon Powershot SD780 IS to smart auto the camera automatically selects an appropriate setting from 18 specially defined settings. You just have to concentrate on shooting the picture, Canon technology will take care of the rest.

A Face Detection Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. So if you are taking a group photo and want to include the yourself, just put the camera on a tripod and select Face Detection Self Timer. The camera will now wait for the your face to move into the frame before it takes the perfectly focused shot.

This is possible because of the advanced DIGIC 4 image processor on board the camera. This delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you're ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus.

Ref eye correction is not new but the Canon Powershot SD780IS provides three options for removing red eye from your flash photographs. Firstly red eye is detected and corrected during shooting, secondly the camera can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback. Finally you can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

Another piece of technology on board the PowerShot SD780IS is iSAPS. This is an original scene recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

This camera has other great features apart from those touched on here. All in all Canon are doing their best with this camera to make it as easy as possible for you to take great photos and videos each and every time. It fits easily into a purse or shirt pocket ready to shoot video and capture images at a seconds notice.

Never Buy A Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Elph - Review

Just because a ton of people who have the Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Elph purchased, does not mean that there is a good camera. Although it may be true that most people who have this camera are happy with it, there is also a good number of customers who make the ever regret the purchase. Let's take a look at a few problems with the SD1000 camera.

The SD1000 Digital Elph, which is what I like to see as a niche camera. Meaning that it was designed to have onevery narrow and specific purpose. If your uses are not covered by this purpose, not as a Canon, this camera built for you. In particular, the PowerShot SD1000 for people shooting in near perfect conditions with very little extra space meant in their luggage. Which means that if your outdoors in bright sunlight, wearing shorts, a T-shirt and sandals, walking around, you can still some great pictures. But it also means that in low light conditions or in the hall, there is a pretty good chance that your Pictures will turn out grainy, noisy and somewhat blurred.

Size does matter, Canon, and the SD1000 Digital Elph, you get a very small package. Which is very convenient. On the negative side, however, timpani, all these functions in such a small package seems the SD1000 have made it very vulnerable. I heard from two customers who had been sitting cracked LCDs, even after the camera, reported on a shelf in his case. They both had a hard time convincing> Canon customer service, that the cracks, the result of neglecting the user. I also have the power switch in the absence of added twice to the same camera. The second time was less than a week after originally Canon repaired it. Dead sensors also seem fairly common with the SD1000. The bottom line here is that if you decide to buy the SD1000, be sure you buy from a dealer with a generous return policy. Online or offline, Amazon has one of the better return policyaround.

While the image quality and reliability are the biggest concerns with the Powershot SD1000, there are a few others, including:

- Slow and cumbersome menu navigation.

- Very sensitive to camera shake, especially in low light conditions.

- Slow more parts for the repair because they are shipped from abroad.

- Slow shutter lag can lead to many missed shots.
